Slidell elected a new mayor on Saturday, April 28th. Greg Cromer will take over from current mayor Freddy Drennan at the end of June. Cromer has a background in management in the aerospace industry, and has promised to use those connections to bring higher tech industries to Slidell and the area.
Although he is limited in what he can do as Mayor to bring in these new businesses, Cromer plans to meet regularly with leaders of Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, Mississippi, and the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans East, in hopes of garnering interest in Slidell.
Cromer said, “We’ve got to capitalize on what we do best – technology”, “Why can’t there be a business incubator in one of those empty stores at North Shore mall?” He added, “We need to partner with Mississippi and the Gulf Coast. And with New Orleans, they’re not our enemies.” He believes these regional connections will help boost Slidell’s business environment.
